Improve Your Vehicle's MPG.

By Stephan Marking

People will do a lot of different things to try and get the most out of a tank of gas. If this was not true there wouldn't be so many tricks to improve a vehicles miles per gallon. For example, some people turn off their air conditioning system because it makes the engine use more gas. This may be true, but it saves a very small of gas and isnt worth sweating every time you get into your car.

Another one is that driving behind a large semi-truck helps eliminate wind resistance which in turn improves gas mileage. This also is correct, but most 18 wheel trucks drive slow, throw rocks up from their tires which hit your car, and dont want you back there anyway.

There is even a myth that says putting moth balls in the gas tank increases the octane. Whether that one is true or not, the best advice is to not put things in your gas tank that are not intended to be there. In the end, the best way to get more miles per gallon is to study how a cars combustible engine works and find a way to improve it.

All combustible engines work the same way. Air is brought into the engine, the air is then mixed with gas, an explosion occurs, and then the exhaust is pushed out of the engine. So basically the idea is Air In, Air Out. The more efficient an engine does this simple action the better it will drive, the better gas mileage it will get, and the longer it will last. The concept is really quite simple.

The two best ways to improve this process is with a cold air intake system with a free flowing air filter and a new high performance exhaust. A cold air intake increases the amount of air that is pulled into the motor as well as decreases the resistance the air has to travel through. The free flowing air filter stills filters the air going into the engine yet does it in a much more efficient manner. A high performance exhaust system will allow the exhaust gases to escape the engine much quicker through larger pipes and free flowing muffler. These two changes to a vehicle can improve power and gas mileage as much as 30%. - 21392
