Adding A Car Compressed Natural Gas Conversion Kit To Your Car

By Michael Skatoli

Cleaner and more affordable motoring is the way of the future. There are quite a few alternatives on the alternative fuels market these days, but amongst the most affordable is to fuel your vehicle using compressed natural gas and a CNG conversion kit.

CNG means compressed natural gas. CNG vehicles are an increasingly popular alternative to traditional modes of transport. There are more than 7,000,000 cars worldwide today that are run by natural gas using CNG conversion kits.

A CNG conversion kit allows you to change your vehicle so that it runs on natural gas instead of conventional fuel. Not only will this allow you save cash on fuel expenses, it lowers emissions, so it also helps to save the environment.

In many countries worldwide, and especially in Southeast Asia and Latin America, automotive makers are offering their cars with CNG conversion hardware already in place.

Here, most natural gas vehicles running on our roads have been modified by mechanics. Cars can either be modified to run on CNG alone, or alternatively use CNG in addition to conventional fuel.

If you make the decision to install a natural gas conversion kit in your vehicle, it is possible that you could do the job yourself if you have experience with mechanics and car maintenance. It is a complicated task, but people have been known to complete the job on their own.

The normal option, however, is to locate a mechanic to install one for you. It does not need to be too expensive and you can rest assured in the knowledge that it will be a job well done.

When it comes to CNG conversion kits, there are a few things that you should be aware of. Perhaps most importantly you will need to make sure that there is a compressed natural gas fueling station in your local area. This information should be easily available on the internet.

However, even if there are no CNG fueling stations near your house, you do have other alternatives. One such option is a home refueling device. If you have natural gas in your home, this appliance can compress a full tank of fuel in a couple of hours so you can connect it to your car at night time and have a full tank of fuel when you get up. Alternatively, you could purchase a natural gas compressor.

CNG kits can be a clever purchase that can save a lot of cash, and the planet, in the long run. However, there is a fairly hefty initial outlay at the beginning. At the bottom end, CNG kits are quite affordable at something in the region of $1,000. However, some CNG conversion kits can cost a lot more than that, and you also have to be aware of the cost of installing the kit. - 21392
