Cheap Car Insurance: Save Over $1200 Annually for the Next Five Years

By Paul Amador

Anyone who is considering the purchase of a new vehicle has many decisions to make. They have to decide whether they want to buy a new or pre-owned vehicle. They also have decisions regarding the make and model of the car, the options they prefer and more. However, there is also another matter that has to be considered: insuring the vehicle. If a person is interested in cheap car insurance, annual insurance premiums can be had for right around four thousand dollars. However, some of the most expensive vehicles to insure will cost the owner over ten thousand per year. It all depends on the type of vehicle that is chosen.

To get a specific idea of which type of vehicles command the highest annual insurance premiums and which command cheap car insurance, you can look at the table below which details the information. Insurance.com is responsible for the information being made available for review. The table specifies which vehicles in each of the following groups: Passenger Cars, Trucks, Sports Cars, Crossover/SUVs and Vans/Wagons are the most expensive and the cheapest to insure annually. The groups are broken down even further into Large, Midsize and Small classifications.

Here's how the average annual premium for each of these groups broke out:

Group Highest Premiums Cheapest Premiums

Lg. Crossover/SUV: Mercedes-Benz G-Class $2,088 Hyundai Veracruz $977

Midsize Crossover/SUV: Infiniti EX $1,306 Hyundai Santa Fe $832

Small Crossover/SUV: Mazda Tribute Hybrid $ 1,372 Kia Sportage $840

Lrg. Passenger: Audi S8 $2,071 Pontiac Grand Prix $902

Midsize Passenger: Audi S6 $1,571 Subaru Legacy $962

Small Passenger: Volkswagen Eos $1,198 Kia Rio5 $870

Small Sports Car: Dodge Viper convertible $2,580 Mazda MX-5 Miata $1,017

Lrg. Truck: Cadillac Escalade EXT $1,592 GMC Sierra2500HD $1,013

Midsize Truck: Dodge Dakota $1,279 Ford Expl Sport Trac $1,070

Small Truck: Chevrolet Colorado $1,147 Mazda Truck $957

Lrg. Van/Wagon: BMW 5-Series Sports Wagon $1,153 Chevy Uplander $831

A large vehicle such as the Mercedes Benz G-Class Sport Utility Vehicle will cost you over two thousand dollars per year in annual insurance premiums. It is, in fact, one of the most expensive vehicles listed to insure, and is not considered to be cheap car insurance. However, you will shell out even more cash if you choose to be the proud owner of a fast moving sports car called a Dodge Viper convertible. This car commands a hefty annual insurance premium of $2,580.

Audi, surprisingly, will set you back the greatest amount each year in both the large and midsize passenger car categories. The popular Cadillac Escalade EXT, categorized as a truck in this survey, seems almost modestly priced at $ 1,592 per year.

The real bargains of the year come in the large Van/Wagon category. You can drive a new BMW 5-Series Sports Wagon out of the dealer parking lot for a very reasonable $ 1,153. Finally, the cheap car insurance award for the year 2009 goes to the Chevrolet Uplander. At $ 831 per year, the Uplander comes in a full $1,257.00 cheaper every year than the most expensive Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV. - 21392
