The Honda Valkyrie Rune: A rare and almost unique used motorcycle.
Total and utter insanity! That's the Honda Valkyrie Rune summed up in a nutshell. Seeing one for the first time makes you question your sanity, or Honda's. It's like the deepest, darkest parts of your nightmare psyche have manifested in the flesh. Or in this case, chrome.
It's the look of the thing that first grabs your attention. It's huge, it curves elegantly everywhere and there's just *so* much chrome! This is one Cruiser that knows which target audience it's aiming at. Big, brash and glittering it shouts 'look at me' with every beat of that throbbing exhaust note.
Honda's other huge Cruiser offerings don't exactly fire the imagination it has to be said. But they've never built one like this before either. 6 cylinders and 1.8 litres of solid thumping motor in a beautifully styled retro chassis. Then they've built all the weighty bits into the base keeping the centre of gravity low and well placed. When you sit on her she doesn't really feel heavy at all.
The engine is smooth as ice cream after being whisked. And there's just so much torque it's ridiculous. Leaning into a bend and squeezing the throttle pushes you back into the comfortable seat and drives you out to the straight with punch. It can keep you entertained for hours and without the aches and pains you might expect from a long road ride.
The only down-side to this incredible machine is the availability. Honda doesn't make them any more and never officially imported them to Europe either. The only ones that made it to our shores were personal imports. So on the odd occasion one pops up on Ebay for sale or Bike Trader but that's about it. The only other way of sourcing one would involve a rather costly and lengthy expedition to the USA. Good excuse for a long holiday though I guess.
However sometimes, only sometimes, one of the few of these bikes which were privately imported come up for sale. In fact, right at this very minute, one is sitting in a used motorcycle showroom in Leicester. Sitting and waiting for her next gleeful owner to arrive, to drool and to buy.
Actually seeing a Honda Rune in reality was what shocked me into writing this mini review. I have honestly never seen anything like it in my life. You really wouldn't be surprised to see a blaster-touting Dredd come walking by and fly off on her at any moment believe me.
There you go then. I'm presenting you with a once in a lifetime opportunity here. Go take a trip to Leicester and have a look at a Honda Rune and see what I mean. And then if you have thirteen grand ready to spend I wouldn't think you mad if you did. I certainly would if I had it. - 21392
