How To Make A Used Car Look New

By Amy Nutt

In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the purchases of used cars. This is partly due to the difficult economic climate which has caused many people to trim their budgets. Many who have used cars want to make the car look as though it is new. Whether you want to sell your used car, or make it look new, there a number of things you can do to give your car a great make-over.

Before you begin any work on your car, you should carefully inspect it to look for any damage or blemishes that may require repair. Evaluate both the interior and exterior of the car. Look for scratches, dents, chipped paint, damage to the upholstery, etc. It is important to look under the car for any gas or oil leaks. If you have extra money, get a mechanic to look at the car.

After examination, the following tips will help make your used car look new:

1. The exterior of the car is the first thing a person sees so it is essential to repair and thoroughly clean it. You want to make the paint look new. You can seal and cover any rusted areas by applying a coat of paint. A quality spray paint is a good choice. If you have any loose-fitting parts, have a mechanic fix them. If the parts are in very poor condition, replace them. Scratches can be sanded and applied with paint. Make sure you have filled any chips in the rear view mirrors. As well, make sure the paint matches the paint with the rest of the car. Once the repairs are done and any wet areas have completely dried, wash and wax the car.

2. Check your tires. Are they badly tarnished or are the treads severely worn? You may have to replace some tires. There are special products that can clean tires and bring out the shine.

3. With the interior of the car, clear out any trash that has been accumulating. Vacuum and clean the interior of the car. Make sure you clean in the crevices and under the seats. The best method to make the interior of your car sparkle is to dust, clean, and apply a polisher. Clean every part of the inside of the car, including the air vents. Add an air freshener. For the upholstery, thoroughly clean any stains. Fix any tears in the upholstery.

4. Look for any old or missing car devices such as windshield wipers, lights, trim, ashtrays, etc. Replace any item that makes the car look damaged or of poor quality.

5. Check to see how well the car is running. Are the brakes squealing? Is the muffler loud? How old is the battery? You may have to have some repairs done or replace some devices. You can also clean the motor, change the oil, add lube to various parts, and fasten loose wires.

We all enjoy shiny brand new cars. It is important to be aware of the fact that just because you have a used car, it does not mean that it has to look like a used car. Proper repairs and cleaning can make any used car look almost brand new. - 21392
