Put A Stop To Car Theft With A Car Steering Lock

By Jim Samposzi

For most of us, our vehicle is one of the most expensive purchases we make in our lifetimes so there is nothing more painful than having it stolen.

Luckily, there are plenty of ways in which we can safeguard our vehicles and stop potential robbers. While many vehicles on the market today have hi-tech security systems, vehicle thieves always seem to be one step ahead.

So it is important to deter them in any way you can and a quality car steering wheel lock is a good place to start. A quality wheel lock may just be enough to discourage criminals, who may go seek an easier target.

As mentioned, no car security system can protect your car one hundred percent and cheaper car steering wheel locks will not present too many problems for criminals. That said, if you are willing to invest in a more expensive model it can slow them down dramatically.

Car steering wheel locks come in in a number of different varieties. Cheaper models often consist of a metal bar that is locked to the steering wheel and stops any would-be criminal from turning the wheel completely. These cheaper models can be found for about $20.

As you go up in cost steering wheel locks become more intricate and pose more problems to thieves. Some steering locks are disc-shaped, thereby preventing their removal by simply cutting through the steering wheel, while others varieties also disable the gear stick, making theft even harder.

Car steering wheel locks are just one of many car security products available on the market, but they are certainly one of the most affordable. Other car security products you may want to investigate might be fuel pump and battery disconnects, wheel clamps and cameras. Your vehicle will most likely already have an alarm system and an immobilizer. Quality insurance, of course, is also wise.

Though these vehicle safety products will all help you stop the theft of your car, how you behave is also a factor. Use your head when you leave your vehicle anywhere. For example, only leave it on well-lit, busy streets and make sure that your doors are locked and the car is fully secure.

Also, never leave things in your vehicle. If you can, take everything of value with you, and if you must leave anything in your vehicle make sure it is totally hidden.

Be careful of your keys. If they go missing or you suspect they have been robbed, call the authorities immediately and return to where you left your vehicle. In addition, never leave a spare set of keys in your vehicle.

Finally, if your car is robbed call the authorities straight away with as much information about the car to hand as you can. It is also a good idea to contact your insurance company early on.

Car theft is a fact of life, but with the right equipment and a little common sense you can avoid becoming yet another car theft statistic. - 21392
