Automotive Service Manager Training Gives You The Keys To Success

By Ben Pate

Enrolling in a program for automotive service manger training can help you advance in your career. Mechanics and service technicians learn a lot including the other skills that you will need to be a manager. A good automotive service manager jobs program can help you develop the abilities you require.

Some innate qualities are necessary to do well in a management position. Among them are having leadership ability, being well organized, being able to multi-task and being proficient in computers and math. If this sounds like you, management training will help you make the most of these qualities.

While you work as a mechanic, you enhance your skills of servicing cars. But when you enroll in a manager training program, you will focus on the business aspect of automotive servicing. In the manager position, you work with the vendors, customers, mechanics and more to be sure that everything is functioning at optimum.

Of course, dealing with customers is one of the most important parts of this job. The service job starts with taking appointments and writing up the customer service orders. When there are problems, you need to be able to deal with them calmly and find a solution that is acceptable to all parties.

Employee management is also important. You have to learn how to discipline as well as how to motivate. You may have difficult employees and these need to be handled properly. Before you became a manager, your staff may have been your workmates, making the job that much more difficult. Managers need to be able to have good relationships with the employees but also have their respect.

Inventory tracking is a particularly important part of this position. A service manager needs to know when it is time to order more parts. You will learn about inventory tracking and what this means for the day-to-day functioning of your department. If you are having problems with parts, this is another area in which you need to learn how to problem solve.

Good automotive service manager training programs also incorporate accounting training in the curriculum. Large dealerships will have a dedicated accounting department. But managers need to understand accounting relative to the service department and the affect on the overall accounting of the company.

You will be instructed in marketing as well. Even if you are working in a larger company with a separate marketing division, you need to understand how your department works within the larger marketing effort. Each department is vital to marketing. Automotive service, especially, and its reputation, plays a large role in the ability to market a dealership well. - 21392
