What Is A Tune Up And What Does It Usually Include?

By Lindsay Parker

When it comes to our cars preventative maintenance is key to a lasting car. A quick and easy way to do maintenance is to bring your car in for a frequent tune up.

A lot of times, if things are going great and seem to be running well, we might think that a tune up isn't necessary, but it really is the key to maintaining the health of your vehicle. If we want our cars to last longer, we have got to start taking better care of them.

One of the main reasons that people may hesitate to get a tune up is because during a tune up certain parts of the car are replaced. Some people may say that if it is working fine why change the part? The fact is that these parts need to be changed or replaced frequently to prevent decreased performance as well as causing other engine problems.

Tune ups are just the smart thing to do because you can end up saving money by catching and solving problems sooner. Most car experts agree that you should be bringing in your car for a tune up about once a year.

I'll use an air filter as an example of why we really do need to have certain parts of our cars changed on a regular bases. If you go for long periods of time without changing your air filter, your engine will struggle to get the air that it needs to work properly, as your engine overworks for air, other engine problems will start to arise and end up costing even more money. An easy tune up could have solved that problem long before it started.

You will have to talk to your local professional for what services they offer for their tune ups. Most of them will offer replacing the distributor cap, rotor, the air filter, and the spark plugs. Some may offer more than this so it is smart to ask them what each general tune up that they have will specifically offer you.

When you bring in your car for a tune up ask a lot of questions both before and after about your car. Find out what they will be doing, what they will be changing or what they changed. Also make sure that you've asked them specifics on future problems that they see that you might have, etc.

To think that your car does not need a yearly tune up is not the best thing for your car. If you want it to last longer and be a better ride for both you and your family, make sure that it is getting the treatment that it deserves. - 21392
