Cheaper Automobile Insurance? Try These

By Chimezirim Odimba

Everyone in their right mind would be quite glad to find a way to enjoy lower rates as long as such a way will NOT downgrade the level of coverage they get. Let's discuss several proven ways of getting just that...

1. You will equally be eligible for a reasonable discount if you have more than one policy with the same provider. All you must do to become eligible for this is to get your car insurance policy from the very insurer that is underwriting, say, your home insurance.

Nevertheless, I must point out that you may NOT be saving as much as you might by changing to another insurer. It is worthwhile that you do comparison shopping. This done, you'll be be well equipped to determine if this would make you save a lot more.

2. Drivers who don't make claims for over three years generally attract a special discount for it. A number of insurance providers don't present this discount without some persuasion.

If your insurance carrier is one of the few who don't give this discount let them know point-blank that you will switch to another insurance carrier. In fact, you should leave them because you'll almost always find a better offer somewhere else if you've maintained a claims-free status for this number of years.

And, as a matter of fact, your insurance provider is likely to shift grounds if they discover you are really serious about switching.

3. Car owners who because of their scope of understanding retain either collision or comprehensive coverage types or the two for an old vehicle that isn't considered a classic are simply spending a lot more than would do them any good. Your vehicle's Kelly Blue Book value at the time of filing claims (and not the cost of the car when you bought it) is what affects what you will be reimbursed by an insurance carrier. So even if you have paid your premiums faithfully for several years but the Kelly Blue Book value says your vehicle is worth nothing, you'll get nothing from the insurer and they will be completely covered by the law.

Therefore, do yourself a favor and drop these types from your policy for all old cars. You will save much if you do this.

4. Choosing high deductibles is a proven way to land more affordable rates. It makes sense to have a deductible that's as high as possible but as well within easy reach for you.

Just take note that this is what you'd have to contribute if you make a claim.

5. Drive as little as as you can because it will bring down your mileage and qualify you for a low mileage discount. This relates more to those whose occupation and place of residence make it easy for them to use public mass transit systems.

You can also reduce your mileage by joining a carpool.

6. Under-25 drivers pay really high rates. If you belong to this age group you can get cheaper rates if you maintain good grades at school.

To have it, however, you must maintain a minimum of a "B" grade. This attracts a discount of about 5%. Young drivers with excellent grades are usually considered more responsible and less prone to reckless driving.

7. You can lower your auto insurance premium by asking for and comparing quotes from at least five reputable quotes sites. - 21392
