Automotive Service Management - Searching For A Career

The automotive industry is one of the largest employment generating industries of present times. From research and development to sales and management, there is a vast avenue of job opportunities with this sector. The post of automotive dealership service manager in a vehicle/car dealership is a coveted position to have. It is a job position with a wide variance of responsibilities and obligations to be handled. But one who successfully manages this post will also receive an abundance of financial returns and benefits from the employing company.

People from a wide range of educational backgrounds can opt for this position. But is preferred that applicants hold a degree or certificate in Automotive Technology and/or Business Administration. Added to this anyone vying for this job option should also be dynamic, innovative and creative to handle the various facets of this work. Industry surveys estimate that automotive service management team earn anywhere from 55, 000 to 88, 000 dollars annually, depending on their experience and location. But this is not the job for stragglers; every cent is earned through honest and plain hard work.

The other aspect of an Automotive Service Manager's works includes the customer services that he/she must handle. Though interaction with customers may not be a daily event, the ASM's presence will be necessary in many cases.

He / She needs to visit the sales floor often to keep an eye on sales proceedings and employee conduct. Any customer complaints and requests will also have to be treated by the ASM directly. Also final sales approval has to be given by the ASM, who himself needs to be aware of sales policies and procedures.

It is abundantly clear that the work of an Automotive Service Manager is not an easy one. It entails a lot of hard work and dedication to be put in. But as mentioned earlier the salaries and incentives received from companies are equal to the efforts put in. Service Mangers can draw annual incomes of 50, 000 to 80, 000 dollars.

The above description aptly illuminates the fact that the position of an Automotive Service Manager is one much importance and high responsibility. He is expected to deal with a variety of people ranging from company officials, employees, city officials, consultants and customers. Technical know how is not enough to secure and retain this job. A variety of other skills are required to manage in this job.
