There are two types of tickets you can receive when you violate traffic law. One is a parking ticket and the other is a speeding ticket. There are a few variations therein, but these are generally how they are distinguished from one another. These tickets can vary in several ways.

The punishment not only fits the crime, but also the area where you are. Different states and countries have different rules for speeders. There is no 'single' punishment, but rather many standards that are often used alone or with others. It is a complicated issue, too, because it depends on your own criminal history and exactly what you were doing when you were speeding.

The minor speeding crimes can be put together with other minor crimes. These include going over the speed limit, not restraining your child properly, not wearing a seat belt, running a stop sign, or not having your car inspected. Speeding is the easiest to catch, though, since it is so obvious to see. Cops wait in speed traps, areas where they know people are tempted to go fast.

Speeding tickets can also be paired with far more serious crimes. Your car being completely out of control often earns a reckless endangerment charge. Speeders sometimes evade being arrested when they see the blue lights flashing. And many people speed because they are under the influence. If you are caught with any of these crimes, your punishment will usually come with some sort of formal court charge and far higher fines.

If you have a bad history with speeding--or with other crimes in general--just play it safe no matter how tempting it is to step on the gas. People with long histories are not given an leniency. It is also a bad sign if you are the type of person who does not pay your fines. If you have many unpaid tickets, the court is going to see that you keep driving poorly, keep getting caught, and refuse to take your punishment.

The United States allows drivers to get ten points against their licenses before the license is suspended. Some people think this is being too soft on speeders, since speeding usually only gives you a point or two. Bigger crimes can get you an automatic suspension, though. And if you have suspended your license twice, you better hope you do not get pulled over again, because it will be irrevocably taken from you.
