Metal Carport Kits Can Be Used in Different Ways

By John A Moore

If you are in the market for a carport, then you might want to check out the range of metal carport kits available online. A kit offers an easy solution for a diy project, and you can often find economical options if you do a bit of comparison shopping. A fully designed aluminum or steel kit which comes pre-drilled with all the materials needed is a great time-saver, plus you will save the labour and markup costs of having a car port installed for you.

There is some lingo to learn when you start to look at carports, so I'm going to define some of the terms you may hear when you begin your research. Two main distinctions are attached and detached. Detached carports are stand-alone structures with supports are all four corners, and possibly along both walls. Attached car ports (also called lean to carports) share one side with another building, generally your house. Supports are only needed along one side, as the other side is supported by attaching the roof to the other building. Often attached carports will either have a flat roof or sloped roof (also known as single slope car ports). Detached carports most often have a roof style matching the buildings around it.

Metal carport kits are not just used to protect cars these days. People are using carports for all sorts of purposes. These days many lean to metal carports are used as awnings to cover front porches and side patios. It is only upon closer inspection that you even notice that these structures are actually carports. Metal carports that attach to the house also provide great covered play areas for children. With the addition of a small fence, these carports provide the perfect sheltered outdoor play area for children.

Stand alone metal carports can be used as a gazebo or picnic area shelter in your backyard or at your cottage. If a double carport is used then as many as 4 picnic tables can fit underneath the roof. In the alternative, a few picnic tables plus a BBQ area would comfortably fit underneath a double carport. With the right protection from the elements, outdoor gatherings can proceed in any type of weather.

Don't forget the less obvious use for a carport kit other than your car or truck; you might have a camper, fifth-wheel, sail-boat or speed boat, seadoo or pwc that would benefit from all weather protection. Sometimes a vehicle cover just doesn't offer the type of protection that you would like, and the solid protection that a car port can offer will help keep your investment protected. Don't worry about oversize vehicles, metal car port kits are available in standard and custom sizes. You should be able to find a kit that is the right size to house any combination of vehicles or activities.

The extra durability that a metal carport offers over tarps and temporary canopy structures is really worth the extra expense and assembly effort. A quality metal carport kit will add value to your house, and with the proper attention to selecting a complementary style, you will also enjoy the added aesthetic appeal. Whether you use your metal car port kit to protect vehicles, or add extra outdoor living space, you will definitely be glad of the investment you make. - 21392
