A Small Truck For A Big Job, Ford Ranger
The Ford Ranger was introduced into the market in 1983. The truck was first introduced as a replacement for the Courier, which had actually been produced by Mazda, but had the Ford name. The Ranger has been produced every year since then and remains one of the most popular sellers of Ford's vehicles.
Although the bed of the Ranger is smaller than the standard sized Ford F-150, the design was originally made so that a four foot sheet of plywood would fit inside the bed. The sheet will have to ride on top of the wheel wells, but it will fit.
The cab of the Ranger is designed to hold two passengers comfortably. Some of the extended models have jump seats that will allow a third or fourth passenger to sit facing sideways behind the driver and passenger seats. While the jump seats are small they provide adequate seating for children or small adults. Thus, the Ranger can be a four person vehicle that will also carry four foot sheets of plywood.
Throughout its production, the Ranger has been a successful vehicle for Ford. With over twenty five years of history, the Ranger remains a good seller. Body style for this truck is now into its fourth generation. The body style has changed as the body styles of the F-series trucks have changed.
The smaller size means better gas mileage and these trucks are very popular among commuters who enjoy driving a truck but still need the better gas mileage offered by the smaller truck.
The current Ranger is built with a 2. 3 liter or a 4. 0 liter engine. Although it was available in a V-6 engine in earlier models, the Ranger no longer offers this option.
Today's Ranger is one of the few small trucks that are being built. Both Toyota and Dodge have increased the size of their former small sized trucks to the midsize range, leaving the Ranger as the only option in today's market.
Ford mad the decision a few years ago to spend advertising dollars on the Explorer series rather than the Ranger a few years ago, and the result has been that sales of the Ranger have been lagging. Promises from Ford are that the Ranger will be produced until the 2012 model year. This, in part is due to the demands for better fuel economy.
Again, according to rumors, the Ranger will be replaced in 2012 by an Australian Ford truck that was not originally intended for sale in the United States. Ford has already begun test marketing the vehicle in the United States. The newer truck will be available in the United States only with a 1. 6-liter engine. In other parts of the world, buyers can opt for a diesel engine that is a 3. 0-liter engine.
Ford Rangers have been very popular Fords for several years. They offer fuel economy, but drivers can still feel free to carry a payload in the truck. Engine sizes slowly increased offering the later trucks more power than the first ones. New engine styles can offer the same power with lower fuel consumption. - 21392
