How to Get The Best San Diego Auto Insurance Rates

By Frances Belot

Do you live in the San Diego area? If you do, and you own a car, you should get San Diego auto insurance. Why? For one, you need to abide with the law. The state law requires every vehicle owner in California to get their car insured as a protection in times of trouble.

Getting an auto insurance will help keep you from getting into financial trouble when you or any of your family member gets into a car accident. Your insurance will cover the costs incurred by property damages and personal injury.

So how do you go about getting your vehicle insured? One important thing you need to know is that you should go to several San Diego auto insurance companies first and look for attractive quotes. Here are some tips to help you scout for the best possible rates:

1. Search regularly for quotes. You may not know it but you could be paying the same premium for an old car--the same amount you could pay for a new one. So why waste more money when you can find something cheaper? You should regularly search for better quotes to increase your chances of getting better rates.

2. You should seriously consider getting a liability only insurance if you have an older vehicle. When you do this, take note of how much your car is valued.

3. Take a defensive driving course. If you want to save money on your auto insurance, you can take a driving course. As a matter of fact, a simple 6 hour defensive driving course can save you up to 10% on your insurance premium. You need to contact your local department of motor vehicles for information on taking this course. There are different ways on how you can take this course. Most of the times, you can take this course by mail, by video, or even online.

4. Make you that you maintain good credit. To have a good credit, you must pay your payments on time. Make sure you are current on your payments so that you will look good in the eyes of your bank and San Diego auto insurance agencies. When you establish a good credit rating, you will be able to lower your premium.

5. Stick to one insurance agency. It's recommended to stick to one insurance agency if you are planning to get life, home, fire, boat or any other types of insurance. If you stick to one insurance agency and have multiple policies, they will be able to slash a significant percentage off your premium. - 21392

Engine Oil Analysis for Cheapskates

By Michael Kafuman

The best way to establish realistic oil change intervals is via oil analysis. Of course, on many passenger car vehicles that only take 4-6 quarts of motor oil, the cost of the oil analysis is nearly as much as a complete oil change.

Of course, the end result is that most folks will chose not to ante up for a "true" oil analysis. However, they might be inclined to perform their own "oil analysis", if they knew how to go about doing it. It won't give you readings as accurate and precise as results from a lab, but it can give you a fairly good idea of how well your oil is maintaining it's ability to protect your engine.

Below you will read about one of six very simple yet incredibly useful tests for checking oil quality without ever having to leave your garage.

It would likely also be in your best interests to learn a bit more regarding lubricants and filters in general. You might find the following sites useful in this quest.

- The Motor Oil Bible - Over 150 pages of motor oil information

- The Motor Oil Evaluator -

- A Motor Oil Forum for discussion of motor oils

The Spot Test

Putting this simple test into practice can reveal a plethora of potential oil problems that might cause your engine to be in need of an oil change: build-up of condensation, contamination with anti-freeze, high particulate levels, dispersant additive deterioration, fuel in your oil, products of oxidation and sludge build-up.

While your engine (and the oil) is WARM (not HOT), yank the oil level dipstick and deposit one drop of engine oil on a heavy, white, NON-glossy business card. Lay your white paper/card someplace where it sits suspended and parallel to the ground and so that your oil spot won't touch anything - on either side of the card. For instance, if using something relatively stiff you could set it across the top of a mug.

Wait until the oil drop is no longer moist. Use the list below to evaluate the condition of your oil based on the DRY oil spot.

- A colorless spot or slight yellowish outer ring = "good" oil.

- A dense, dark deposit zone = Dispersancy failure

- A black, pasty area = Anti-freeze in your engine oil

- Center of circle dark with distinct outer ring = Severe oxidation

- Center of circle dark with outer rings = Fuel in oil,Fuel dilution

Paintless Dent Removal Made Easy - Car Bodywork Help

By Mario Goldstein

In the fine art of paintless dent removal, there is more of a fine art involved than you might think. Not only does it require good training skills, it also requires the touch.

The tools used for this procedure are long and delicate, to allow access to difficult to reach places. One wrong move can cause a wrinkle in the surface, making a highpoint that is visible when looking at the smoothness of the surface.

Wrinkled metal is one of the most difficult, if not, almost impossible repairs to do, it all depends on the force of the slip. Most often you get one chance only in paintless dent removal, it is a finesse job that requires great skill, combined with a lot of knowledge and a gentle touch.

Gaining Access When doing paintless dent removal, the first thing that has to be done is to gain access, whether it is the hood, roof, door, trunk, or quarter panel. Once access is gained, you have to select the right tool, not forgetting the length, tip size and diameter when you are selecting that tool.

Starting the Repair Once you have started the repair, delicate, and precise movements are required, many times over, it?s the repetition that works the area. The metal can?t be pushed, it has to be "coaxed" back into its original position, and ?coaxed" is the right word being you can only remove small amounts of metal at a time. There are four major types of damage, and different ways to repair each of them. The standard dent is reversed by a massaging action at the center. For a crease, you use work from left to right, while gently applying. If you start with the smallest dent you can repair double rings can be repaired by starting.

The best way to start with is the smaller area then move to the larger one. Once you have repaired about 90 % of the damage, then you need to work on the distortion evident in the larger dent.

The trick of doing the actual repair is to get the light right on the painted side of the surface. You have already got your tool in place from the other side and now you are ready to get into the finer work.

You need to find the precision point of the tip of the tool. To do this shining the light in the same direction stand perpendicular to the crease. . Don?t work at an angle as the surface will look distortedLooking for the tool tip is like stretching a piece of foil and running your fingernail across it from the other side. When you are repairing the surface, you can see the tool tip you gently move it back and forth, much like the fingernail example. Start at the center, and apply pressure steadily, in finite strokes. The larger the dent, the less pressure you need.

Completing the job. If you did have to make a hole to gain entry, apply sealant as a paint protector and continue to mend the hole. - 21392

Driving School: Are You Being Ripped Off?

By John Robertson

My neighbor has given up the idea of obtaining a driver's license. She spent three sessions with an instructor who chatted more on the cell phone than teach her. Also, the car assigned to them kept stalling every few kilometers. Many people complain they have wasted at least five sessions at driving schools without learning much. Here are some strategies to help you make the best of your driving school stint.

How you benefit from a driving school depends a lot on you as an individual too. Are you a fast learner and are you mechanically more naturally adept than other people? Many factors impact the benefits you derive from lessons at a driving school. But no matter what, there is nothing in a driving test that you cannot eventually clear. A driving school can prepare you in three weeks' time for a $400 fee to take any driving test. This course will include both practical and theoretical lessons.

Before you start up and pay the driving school, request for a discussion session with your instructor. Decide if you will be comfortable with the person when you go out on the road. You should also request that you be shown the car you will be practicing in. Driving schools are obligated to show you the vehicle that will be used. Some driving schools may even give you a choice. When talking with your instructor, ask him to be clear about what specific topics each lesson will focus on.

All driving courses should be divided into two sections-practical and theoretical. A practical test for obtaining a license is taken only after the applicant has first cleared the theory test. Usually, a theory test lasts about an hour and can include 50 questions based on the multiple-choice answer system. Discussing with your instructor the number of specific theory lessons required is very important before you begin.

Going to a driving school does not mean your learning process remains confined there. Additional reading of manuals on road signs, traffic rules, safety measures, highway codes etc must supplement your classroom time. It is always good to prepare brief booklets yourself or, obtain them from your driving school. Keep these in the car for ready reference throughout your driving life.

Supplementing your theoretical knowledge is important because it improves your chances of being safe on the roads. Accidents are as likely to take place because of lack of understanding a road sign as because of practical mishandling of a vehicle. Theoretical lessons begun before you start practical training is always a good idea because they give you confidence and help you train on the road better. Many schools suggest taking theoretical lessons after practical ones which is not very beneficial for learners.

The practical driving sessions of your course can include lessons in the basic, intensive or residential category. Basic practical lessons can include up to five hours of practical driving every week. Experts suggest taking 60 minutes of a practical driving lesson for every 18 months of age to calculate a complete package. An intensive category would be more suitable for those with some experience in theory tests and driving. This category would possibly be more suitable for someone who has already taken a test and not cleared it for some reason. In the intensive category, the applicants can check where they went wrong in their tests and choose lessons for particular topics. Residential courses are arranged by driving schools for group applicants in some towns or areas.

Learning to drive whether for individual or professional needs is always a good idea but landing up with the wrong driving school or getting put off mid-way during a course can be as much your fault as the instructor's. Many people enjoy driving as a hobby and having learnt it at a good school enhances the experience. Many youngsters even take up driving professionally as an interim earning option before beginning a full-time career. Choose the right school, persevere and no driving school can drive you nuts. What you will finally do obtain is your driver's license! - 21392
