Getting The Most Important Hybrid Car Information

By Anton Rowd

When picking out a hybrid car, many customers seem to overlook all the hybrid car information that they should be looking at. Granted, many cars manufactured at present (hybrid or not), really do sell on their looks and just how comfortable they ride. But buying hybrid cars are slowly changing car shopper habits.

Mileage

The hybrid car mileage matters. What shoppers didn't know in the past is that mileage means everything. It dictates how far a car can go on a gallon of gas and even tells you a little something about the gas that is being used and how much emissions a car makes. When you go out shopping for a hybrid car, this is probably the first thing you will have to keep an eye on through a quick scan of a hybrid's EPA rating.

Features

Since hybrid cars can be considered as relatively new, you may also want to look at its features. These new cars are not just designed to look great and save gas. It's their technological features that should be taken to consideration.

Hybrid Engine - First of all, the hybrid engine is something that everyone should marvel about. Many hybrid vehicles actually use two engines and this is important hybrid information for anybody in the market for a hybrid vehicle. One engine runs on gas and it provides juice for a separate electrical engine that will help power a hybrid.

Hybrid Car Battery - Another great technological feature is that as a hybrid runs along on the road, the gas engine and the movement of the vehicle help to charge special battery cells that power the electrical engine. This is a great way to conserve energy and it does not take a lot of fuel to run a hybrid either. Lastly, a stop start feature that is gaining recognition in the motorist world is something that was first seen in hybrid vehicles. Basically, this technology allows a car to shut down almost completely when it is on stand still which means no gas is being used when one is stuck in traffic. The car starts up and moves again when the accelerator is pressed again.

The Advantages

Hybrid cars have several advantages. Current manifestations of these vehicles definitely dispel the idea that hybrid cars are too small and too unattractive to be seen driving around in.

The Hybrid Look - Take the Toyota Prius as an example. It is one of the leading hybrid vehicles that not only boast of one most fuel-efficient technologies, but it looks good as well. Its sleek body has been the inspiration for many other car manufacturers looking into getting into the hybrid car craze but trying to make their cars look good as well. Some mid-SUV range vehicles are also now getting into the hybrid engine craze and this is a perfect idea for those who want to make a change but still want to own a car that's large and commanding.

Hybrid cars are definitely worth looking into if you are looking to buying something new for your everyday usage. Know what to look at first and remember to ask all the important hybrid car information such as what technology it uses and what mileage particular models can achieve to the gallon. - 21392

Auto Insurance Cost - The Things That Make Your Premiums Go Through the Roof

By Vernon L. Stevens

Every now and then do you think to yourself, "why do i pay this much for automobile coverage" well, if you have you are not without help. In the U.S. We are required to have automobile insurance, it is the law and no one really wants to go to jail or be sued becuase they don't have auto insurance!

So, we have to have it but why do we have to shell out so much and what factors cause us to pay extra then our fellow citizens? Well there are 100s of factors that might potentially cause you to pay more then your neighbors but the ones beneath tend to cause the greatest increases. So if doable steer clear of the problems below... No pun intended.

1 - Try to uphold a clean record when it comes to traffic citations. If you have a lead foot well you need to stop! A speeding citation will really hurt your wallet/purse. A single speeding ticket can cost you a lot in fines but boy are you going to pay a heck of a lot more on your car insurance policy. How about a 100-300 percent in premium payments?

2 - Do you have a young new driver? If so you are going to pay greatly when they get to driving age. Young adults are a gigantic liability for auto insurance providers. They drive too fast, they do not pay attentions, and they are easily distracted. They are pretty much a wreck waiting to happen ( from the insurance companies' point of view ). Most folks get into at least a small crash by the time they are 21 and this why their premium payments are much greater.

There really isn't a way of dropping payments when it comes to brand new drivers, you just have to shop around from one company to another and hope you discover a good quality deal.

3 -- If you have been in a few minor wrecks or a major incident then you may be paying more then others. In reality you probably are. The one way to fix this is to go to a fresh auto insurance provider, one that offers accident forgiveness programs.

4 - So you have a high performance car? Good for you but you are paying a lot for car insurance. If you want cheaper insurance you need to get rid of the flashy car, sorry!

As I said there are tons of factors that cause coverage prices to change, they go up, they go down. The only way to really make sure you have a fair plan is to look around. Get a couple online quotes and see what you can discovery. Good luck. - 21392

What Does A PCM Do?

By Nick Molten

Technology has taken over nearly aspect of our lives, even in our cars. The cars today have computers that help maintain better control over the car. One of the computers that are used in cars today is called the pcm computer, or powertrain control module.

The reason we have pcm's in our cars to control drive train is to help the driver maintain control of their car in different driving conditions. The sensors in the powertrain detect the road conditions, such as icy roads, wet roads, dirt roads and other others. It will send a signal to the pcm which in turn will send a signal to the parts of the drive train that it is controlling to behave in certain ways to keep the car under control.

If the car is losing traction, then it will relay the information back to a central computer that tells certain parts of the car to kick in or do things in a different way so that control is maintained. For example, it may cause the axels to each tire to turn at different speeds so that the slippage can be controlled.

The braking system is another area that the pcm has some control. Brakes can make a big difference in how a car handles on an icy or slippery road. One thing that causes problems is when someone locks up the brakes. All control is lost at that point. The pcm computer is designed to make sure that this does not happen, under normal heavy braking. It can do this by pulsing them. It can also adjust how much pressure is applied to each brake to help make sure that the car is braking in a straight line or whichever direction the driver is steering the car.

The pcm computer also controls the transmission. It has sensors to make sure that the transmission is working correctly and can also help regulate the amount of power that is passed through the transmission from the engine. Again, this is designed to help maintain control of the vehicle in all kinds of road conditions.

Like any other part on a car, the pcm computer is subject to go out. If this happens to you, it is best to make sure that you replace it soon because the car will handle much differently without it working. You can purchase pcm's new or used.

The installation of a new or used pcm computer should be done by a professional auto mechanic. It is not necessarily a difficult process, but it is possible to reconnect wires incorrectly and cause further problems that way.

The pcm is not the only computer on board. The ecm, or engine control module, controls aspects relating to the engine of the car. It controls things like fuel and air flow and spark to maximize the balance between efficiency and power. The improvement of performance, efficiency and safety are the driving factors that have led to the use of computers in our cars. - 21392

Tips On How To Buy Cheap Tires

By Robert L. Anderson

There are numerous ways to buy cheap tires, from searching for tire deals on line to used tire shopping. The absolute best way to buy cheap tires, is to ensure you get your moneys worth out of the tires you buy. There are many people who believe that buying tires at a cost of $40 per tire, is how to buy cheap tires.

On the other hand, whether you pay $40 per tire or $200 per tire isn't the only factor in determining cheap or expensive tires. Let's face it anyone faced with buying four tires at a price of $200 per tire doesn't find them cheap. However, if they are going to last you for 100, 000 miles as opposed to 40, 000 miles they would be relatively cost efficient.

The life of your tires is affected by many factors. The frequency of having maintenance performed on your vehicle, how often you check your air pressure, your driving style, and the roads that you drive on. Keeping these factors in mind when purchasing tires can aid in buying cost efficient tires. An average tire pressure that works well for most tires is between 32 and 35 psi. However, your tires will come with a rating, and your vehicle itself will also have a tire pressure rating.

When purchasing tires take into account the type of driving you do, and consider the tire ratings of the tires you are considering. All tires come with ratings for speed, load, traction and wear. You can sacrifice some wear for traction, however it depends upon what is most important to the type of driving you do. Proper vehicle maintenance will go a long way in extending the mileage you get from your tires.

Improperly inflated tires can have negative impact on your fuel mileage. Thus costing you more money, making them less cost efficient. Decreases of 3. 5% in fuel economy have been related to under inflated tires. Many people, not tire sales people obviously, recommend replacing your tires when they need it, not before then. Driving on bald tires is not recommended either, but newer tires are not as fuel efficient as their broken in counterparts.

Your tires also serve as a good diagnostic tool. Your tires can identify many problem areas with your vehicle. This enables you to have the repair done before other components are affected, resulting in much cheaper repairs, and a much more efficient vehicle.

Many people look for ways to buy cheap tires as a way to save money, and in actual fact you can save more money over the long run by purchasing a higher quality tire. Many people recommend purchasing the same tires that came as original equipment on your vehicle. When you consider the cost of a tire, and the number of miles of use you will get from it, this is a cost per thousand miles cost. Some tires that you pay $40 per tire for will only last at the most 40, 000 miles. This is a cost of $1 per thousand miles. If you compare that to a tire that will last say 80, 000 miles, that is available at a cost of $75 per tire, that breaks down to 93. 75 cents per thousand miles.

For those whose heart is set on low cost tires, as I hate to be a heart breaker, here is how to buy cheap tires. Find a reputable auto wreckers, if you don't know one ask around. Many vehicles that are wrecked in accidents have excellent tires on them. Some of these vehicles aren't very old, never mind the tires. It is necessary to find a reputable auto wreckers though, as most of them will only sell you tires that are in good shape. - 21392
